Stallion Bio

Roark OBF (registered name Son et Lumiere OBF) is a charismatic young stallion whose striking presence and steady temperament have made him a standout in the show ring. Fully approved by BWP and BWP/NAD in 2023, he marries athleticism with rideability, offering breeders a sire capable of producing versatile sport horses. Roark brings a ground-covering canter, impressive scope, and careful technique—qualities that carried him consistently into the ribbons as a 6 year old in 1.30 m classes at top venues like Desert International Horse Park, Thunderbird Show Park, and Spruce Meadows. As a 7 year old, he completed his first 1.40m classes successfully. His calm but competitive mindset further enhances his trainability and appeal in high-pressure environments.

Roark's sire Emerald achieved remarkable success under Olympic rider Harrie Smolders. As a young horse, he was reserve champion at the 6-year-old World Championships in 2010 and later competed at the 2016 Rio Olympics and secured individual silver at the 2016 World Cup Final. He boasts multiple CSI5* Grand Prix victories, including the 2017 Chantilly and 2018 Bordeaux shows, as well as Nations Cup wins in Aachen, Gijon, Falsterbo, and Rotterdam. Emerald’s progeny have proven themselves at the highest levels: Grand Prix riders like Igor (with Jos Verlooy), Jeunesse van’t Paradijs (Lorenzo de Luca), Imerald van’t Voorhof (Paul O’Shea), Jaguar vd Berghoeve, and others are testament to his exceptional sire influence.

Roark's dam, Evita OBF (Heartbreaker) has made a significant impact through her progeny. Her first foal, Havana OBF (Escudo I), was the highest-scoring mare on the BWP-NA tour in 2010 and went on to compete up to 1.25m. Evita is also the dam of Klinton OBF (Clinton), a BWP-approved stallion who competed up to 1.40m. Additionally, Evita's daughter Carmen OBF (Clinton) produced Marcus OBF (Indoctro), another BWP-approved stallion who has successfully competed at FEI 5* shows at the 1.50m level. Roark’s dam sire, Heartbreaker (1989–2021), a KWPN stallion by Nimmerdor, is one of the most influential jump sires in the Netherlands and Belgium. Approved in 1992 by BWP, he became a celebrated “ambassador stallion” in 2007 and sired numerous international competitors and sires—including Quasimodo van de Molendreef, Romanov, Toulon, with notable grandsires like Grand Cru van de Rozenberg and Hello Sanctos. Heartbreaker’s contributions to breeding reflect power, reliability, and athleticism in the jumping ring.

Roark OBF offers a rare blend to his foals—a great pedigree, stellar looks, proven performance, and versatility to excel in either the hunter or jumper ring.
